The Summer Job

Now is the time when first year law students around the country start their search for their first summer internship. Some students gain employment through their impressive resumes and some through personal connections. However if you lack both, never fear dear reader you too can get an internship. Below are a few of my most earnest tips for getting an opportunity to wear dress-up clothes while not getting paid.

1. Look for and solicit internships and jobs outside of your school's job board. The logic is simple: offering free (yet quality) services with out competition means that you are the best candidate. Case in point, my good friend Malapropist got his first legal job from a flier that was only posted at city hall (and he got paid!).

2. Judicial Internships: Most states are near financial ruin and are happy to get free help. Look in the bar journal (which is basically a phone book for lawyers) and write a personalized cover letter to each judge; make sure to follow up with the judge's clerk or assistant.

3. Craig's List has more than just cars and shady real-estate for sale, it also has legal jobs.

Good luck to everyone and don't let rejection get you down! Most of these jobs suck anyways.
